A B O U T

Amara’s collage work deals with humanity through magical realism, using shapes, nature, and the human body to highlight the constant push/pull of our delicate and turbulent internal worlds.

P R O C E S S

Approaches vary by piece and are thoughtfully and purposefully crafted by cutting or tearing images or making her own patterns or shapes from current and vintage magazines (everything from Vogue to National Geographic), books, printed images, found scraps, notions, embroidery, and decorative paper such as mulberry or rice. Inspiration comes through all things, some ideas more concrete and some more metaphysical.

Scrapyard is the moniker, because collage is made of scraps, and what else is our experience in this world but scraps patched together to make something whole.

B I O

Amara lives in New York, NY, by way of Minneapolis, MN, and has been making collage for a decade. Her background is in poetry (bachelor’s in creative writing), and visual art has since become an extension of that metaphorical landscape. Her work has been featured in the New York-based shows at The Point CDC and The Greenhouse Gallery, and in Fragment Collage’s book Future. As well, her work can be purchased in person at the Grand Bazaar in Manhattan.
